Making New Friends (originally written 6/11/11)

One of the most amazing things about getting into Jane Austen and the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) is all the "like minded" people you meet that love Jane Austen and her work. Today is a good example. I met with one of the most fantastic women, Lisa Brown, who runs a Regency era clothing rental service called Regency Rentals. One of our fellow Jane-ites introduced us via email, and I met her at Magnolia's on Park Avenue this afternoon. It was a chance to make a new friend, and she has graciously offered to help us in any way she can to help our production succeed in its New York City debut.

What made the interaction so completely wonderful was the joy and passion AND tremendous knowledge she has about the clothing from the Regency era. She knows what kind of dress was worn in the morning, what kind of dress was worn in the evening, how the parasols were made, how bonnets were made ... just about anything you could think of where Regency clothing is concerned--she knows.

This is why I love the Jane Austen Society of North America. The society is made up of incredibly interesting and knowledgeable people who know lots and lots of things. Lisa is a good example because she supplies costumes to people who English country dance, and for those who like to wear costumes to have a "Lizzy Bennet" experience for an afternoon tea of a Regency Ball. She has even become involved with a Jane Austen Singing School for Young Ladies in Skaneateles, New York .. and this September she will be guest speaker for the New York City chapter ... just to talk about the clothing! Isn't that fantastic?

Here's a link to some of the photos of her clothing ...

Go Lisa! Go JASNA! Go Jane!!!
